Founded in 1950, Volgodonsk is the youngest town of the region. Its population is more than 171 000 people.
Due to the advantageous geographical position, large manufacturing and construction sectors of economy, transportation hub, raw agricultural commodities, high skilled labour force Volgodonsk can become a strategic center in southern Russia. All this creates favourable conditions for investment attraction and partnership. Ports, railways, airport provide additional basis for economic development.
2 generating units of Volgodonsk nuclear station produce electricity for the region. Electricity production exceeds the existing needs and makes the city more investment attractive.
Beside large energy production facilities, Volgodonsk also possesses a significant industrial potential. There is a special industrial zone of 120 hectares total area ready to host production facilities. Industrial production can improve financial situation of the city, cerate new jobs and become the basis for development of social infrastructure.
SME is actively developing in the city. There are more than 200 small enterprises. More than a half of them function in trade and catering, 17% function in processing industries, 17% in construction, 10% in hotel and real estate businesses, transportation and communication services.
Consumer market is actively growing. There are new supermarkets, modern markets, cafes, restaurant and shopping centers underway. Salary rate in Volgodonsk is second highest in region (after Rostov on Don).
Volgodonsk also takes 1st place by the number of the winners of school contests in different subjects. 4 city schools received President Grunts of 1 million rubles for modernization of their facilities. Many Volgodonsk graduates occupy executive posts in the Russian Government, State Duma, world’s largest companies in Swede, Australia, the USA.
